We are connected in friendship and passion: Switzerland and Sierra Leone. Noemi Schramm was chosen as ODI (Overseas Development Institute) Fellow in 2013 and told, that she will be working in Sierra Leone. After initial googling of this West African country, she started working there in September 2013. The rest is history: she fell in love with the country and the people. Her family came to visit and the same story happened again: they fell in love with the country and the people.

The Schramm Connection initially supports the construction and running of a school in Kenema, the east of Sierra Leone. The foundation also provides funding and general help to young Sierra Leoneans with passion and potential. The idea is to help them to do it themselves. That can mean paying for computer courses for future enterpreneurs, providing starting capital for small micro enterprises or simply listening and encouraging young people. Everybody has a passion – the foundation wants to nurture and grow that and help people living in the fullness of how they were created.

Noemi’s passion is Development Economics, which she is able to set into practice everyday by working within the Ministry of Health and Sanitation of the Government of Sierra Leone. She spent the first 2.5 years heading the Health Financing Unit of the MoHS, and has worked on health workforce issues since 2016, supporting the Directorate of Human Resources for Health. Her stories often have a health and economics view, but every now and then she also just enjoys the random things that happen when you live in a country like Sierra Leone – stories from the Lion Mountains.

Wir sind verbunden in Leidenschaft und Freundschaft: die Schweiz und Sierra Leone. Noemi Schramm wurde 2013 von ODI (Overseas Development Institute) als Fellow ausgewählt und im Gesundheitsministerium in Sierra Leone platziert. Nachdem Sierra Leone zuerst mal gegooglet werden musste, startete sie ihren Job in diesem West Afrikanischen Land im September 2013. Der Rest ist Geschichte: sie verliebte sich in Land und Leute. Ihre Familie kam zu Besuch und die gleiche Geschichte wiederholte sich: sie verliebten sich in Land und Leute.

Als eine Schweizerisch-Sierra Leonische Stiftung unterstützte die Schramm Connection ursprünglich den Bau und Etablierung einer Sekundarschule in Kenema, im Osten von Sierra Leone. Die Stiftung finanziert und bietet allgemeine Hilfe für junge Sierra LeonerInnen mit Leidenschaft und Potential. Die Idee ist, den jungen Erwachsenen zu helfen, sich selbst zu helfen. Das kann bedeuten, dass ein Computerkurs finanziert wird für junge Unternehmer, Startkapital zur Verfügung gestellt wird für Mikrounternehmen oder einfach nur zugehört und ermutigt wird. Jeder hat eine Leidenschaft im Herz – die Stiftung will diese Leidenschaft junger Leute fördern und ihnen dabei helfen, Dinge umzusetzen. Wir wollen junge Leute sehen, die in der Fülle ihres Lebens leben können.
